By supporting AIDS Foundation East-West (AFEW), you help us to fulfil our mission of contributing to reducing the impact of HIV in Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA).
The HIV epidemic in this region is still at an early stage of development, but is growing at an alarming rate. This gives us a unique window of opportunity to halt its spread and avert a social, economic and human catastrophe.

Support Prison Health in Eastern Europe and Central Asia
Through a social media campaign launched during the International AIDS Conference in Washington DC AIDS Foundation East – West (AFEW) will draw attention worldwide to the unbearable circumstances and lack of coherency within the penal systems of the regions of Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
Prison health and prisoners is not the most socially attractive target group for donations.
AFEW sees the importance of people living within prisons receiving the same healthcare and life opportunities during and after their stay in prison.
Support Self Sustainability of women in Tajikistan
AFEW supports a care centre in Tajikistan, were women are receiving training to become self sustainable. You can support the purchase of computers and sewing machines used to provide the training. Support AFEW on 1% club by contributing in money or your personal time.
Why you should support us
The countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia have some of the fastest growing HIV epidemics in the world.
Whilst the number of officially reported cases across the region reaches in the hundreds of thousands of people living with HIV (PLHIV), most experts agree that roughly 1.5 million HIV-positive individuals already exist in EECA. Ukraine was the first European country to reach a 1% HIV-positive prevalence rate among its adult population.
AFEW was specifically designed as an organisation to fight the HIV epidemic in the countries of the former Soviet Union. Through its physical presence in the region, AFEW is in the best position to advocate for action in the region on the part of both the East and the West.
Support e-Learning
Education is crucial to building an adequate response to the rapidly rising HIV epidemic in EECA, not just for frontline medical and social staff, but also for workers in the emerging NGOs that play a significant role in supporting everyone affected by HIV. However, healthcare expenditure remains extremely low in this region and training for staff who provide baseline services suffers most from this lack of investment.
AFEW is currently developing an extensive series of e-learning modules and methods that will allow us to expand the reach of our public health education programmes and better equip the frontline response to AIDS in the region. To fully implement this project, we need to raise funding to cover some basic and minimal costs.
$150 will help us train one health expert to work and communicate online with colleagues, and, thus, promote best practices around the region. |
$500 will help us record one lecture from an expert at the international level and distribute it to every dedicated professional in a language that he or she understands. |
$1,000 will help us conduct an online session to update healthcare professionals on HIV, TB or any other important relevant topic in public health care. |
$5,000 will help us develop an e-learning course for a specific topic with local experts as speakers. |
$8,000 will help us design and deliver highly professional easy-to-navigate applications to reach young people with the most important messages on HIV prevention, both girls and boys. |
$10,000 will help us develop an e-learning course with an international panel of experts. |
