11.02.2013
Fifteen staff psychologists of Kazakhstan’s penal system and representatives of NGOs working with young prisoners participated in a seminar on effective work with prisoners. The seminar was held in Almaty on 7-8 February in the framework of “Zhastar Plus” project – client management for young prisoners in Almaty and Almaty region. The project is financed by ViiV Healthcare.
Participants were told about different ways of conducting consultations, approaching young prisoners and preventing a recurrence of the crime. A major stress was put on prevention of burnout syndrome. The seminar’s trainer Marat Gusmanov helped the participants see new opportunities to increase the quality of psychological work, both with prisoners and prison staff.
During practical assignments, in which the role of the most difficult clients was played by psychologists, Marat explained simple ways to conduct effective meetings with prisoners, consultations and group work given the working environment and prison conditions.
According to participants, they learned how to carry out the work with more value to the clients and less damage to themselves. This is not the first seminar held for this group in the framework of “Zhastar Plus” project. Last year the group met to discuss transitional client management and consultancy.
