PREVENTION CLIPS FOR UKRAINIAN TELEVISION

PURPOSE

Develop a video to be used as social advertising and aimed at prevention of drug consumption and other negative phenomena among young people, particularly, alcohol consumption, domestic violence, child homelessness and the like. The video will highlight problems in the family and provide alternative, successful methods to solve them.

ACTIVITIES

  • Production of a drug prevention video clip in HDD TV video format;
  • Organisation of a focal group meeting in preparation for the video clip;
  • Organisation of a workshop on parenting skills to present developed video.

OUTCOMES

  • Developed three social prevention clips with duration of 30 seconds, 6 minutes and 30 seconds accordingly in HDD format, promoted them in social networks and on the regional TV in Ukraine.
  • Organised and conducted four focus-groups with parents to test the videos regarding their compliance with the project’s objectives. Focus-groups were organised and conducted by involving organisations from the partner network: Kyiv city Center of Social Services for family, Children and Youth and SOS Children’s Villages.
  • Conducted a 2-day workshop on parenting skills titled “Effective forms and methods of work with parents on alcohol and drug abuse prevention among children and youth”. In order to participate in the workshop on a competitive basis, AFEW selected 23 participants out of 108 applications from all over Ukraine. During the workshop selected participants (which represented both governmental and non-governmental organisations working in the field of education and health services, in particular, with pupils and their parents) got acquainted with the best world practices in the prevention of drug and alcohol abuse among youth and received the tools to work with parents in this direction. In particular, all the participants of the workshop received DVDs with three videos created within the project for further use and distribution in their organisations and in their regions. All participants who sent applications, but were not selected, received materials of the workshop’s outcomes. Besides, everyone who wished to get a DVD with videos by post received them in the amount of their requests.
  • Established effective partnership with State Service of Ukraine on Drugs Control. Through a tender a production company CONVERGING WORLDS (Spolucheni Svity) was selected. AFEW received an official permission from Australian international NGO NAPCAN to use their idea of social campaign Children See, Children Do to create an additional social video. UNICEF was attracted to the partnership and, resulting in the development of an additional 30-second social clip.
  • All three clips were produced in Ukrainian with English subtitles. The clip “Our attention is the best prevention!” was additionally translated and dubbed in English and French. AFEW expects that in the beginning of 2015 this video will be also additionally translated into 9 languages of the participating countries of the Pompidou Group of the Council of Europe in order to its further use and promotion on the international level.
